Hitting a home run provides confidence

People do many things in life. Some of the things they do are great and some aren’t so good. People should be proud of the things they do. I am proud of whatever I accomplish. These things could be in football, baseball, basketball, or academics. No matter what, I’m proud. This is the story of when I advanced my baseball team to semi-state and helped us become district champions.

We met at the elementary school in the early afternoon. I was hanging around with my teammates and having fun! As it came closer to time to head to the field, my nervousness was augmenting. Finally, we loaded up in cars and took off! The ride there was fun. I rode with a few of my buddies and we laughed and joked around. I just couldn’t stop thinking about our game that was nearing. I knew our opponents adversaries were going to throw their ace pitcher! He threw a sick curveball and had a wicked two seam fastball. I couldn’t get that out of the back of my mind.

We arrived at the field and the air was very hot and humid. I did my regular routine and warmed up for the game. I felt great! The first inning began and I stepped in the batter’s box. I was excited and nervous at the same time, my adrenaline was pumping like crazy. The first pitch that was thrown I hit a one hop ground ball to the short stop for an out. I was frustrated but knew I would get another chance. We were a very good hitting team, but this kid basically shut us down.

In the fourth inning, we were down six to four. I stepped in the batter’s box for the second time. Runners were on first and second with two outs. My third base coach called me down and said, “Just relax, take a deep breath and hit this ball to the next county”! This made me laugh and most of all relax. The ace threw two. The next pitch I was expecting fastball, and that’s what I got. He threw the fastball chest and right down the middle. I crushed it! I hit it over the center field wall for a three run home run. We went crazy! This gave us a ton of momentum and we later won the game! We were district champions!

This was a huge accomplishment in my baseball career. It helped me not only to become a good hitter, but it also gave me a great amount of confidence when I stepped in the batter’s box.
