Hong Kong Protest

Originally peaceful demonstrations have exploded into violent riots after British lease over Hong Kong expires. Demonstrators wear masks to defend against police tear gas. Protesters also wear protective clothing. Protesters wave the American flag to show their fight against tyranny.

The origins of the conflict can be traced to European Colonialism in the region. On the 9th of June 1898 a 99 year lease was started and was officially a British colony until 1997. The protesters are concerned over the spread of communism.

Protesters are attacking police with bricks and gasoline bombs. Masks have been banned by the government to combat the protests, although they still wear them. a protester was shot with a live round. Most of the protests are illegal to attend, although they still do.

     Hong Kong’s chief, Carrie Lam said that she would  use colonial-era emergency powers to enforce to enforce the ban that targets those wearing face masks at public get-together. Lam is the first to announce those powers in 50+ years. This happened during the same week as the 70 year of Communist Party’s ruling power in the country celebration in mainland China. 

     Hong Kong experienced widespread unrest with violent protest that was including pro democracy poster being shot by police. 

      Police gas and baton charged protesters in several locations on a Sunday while some protesters threw bricks and bombs, as night began to fall on Hong Kong. After hours off marching in the rain in Hong Kong island and across the Hong Kong harbour in Kowloon ,in what were largely and police tried to disperse the crowds. 

It was said by the police that there were unlawfully assemblies, blocking major roads, and protesters were ordered to leave immediately.
