In serving others you become free?

I only partially agree with the quote “In serving others you become free.”  I have many reasons for why I agree that it’s true and many for why I don’t agree with it! Everyone has a different point of view because a lot of people do great things to help others and don’t get recognized. Only the people that have a well known last name get noticed and get the credit.

If you serve other people even by just being nice, you should feel free, but most people don’t. Doing things for other people should be recognized no matter who you are or what you did. I don’t agree with it because the people that are serving others for a good cause don’t even get a thank you. One time I helped serve food to people that can’t afford to eat or people that don’t have somewhere to eat. It felt good to help out because those people weren’t as fortunate as I was. Out of the sixty people I served, only ten of them said “thank you.” Most didn’t even recognize that I do that on my own time to help them so I didn’t really feel “free.”

I also think “In serving others we become free” is true! The soldiers serving Americans are always protecting us and making us free! They don’t have to do it; they chose to! Another reason is when people loan you money you have to pay them back somehow. So when you serve them to pay them back, you become free. It’s like that saying if you don’t have enough money to pay the bill when you go out to eat, you will have to stay and wash all of the dishes. A soon as you’re done washing all of the dishes, you are free to go home. When I see someone in the hallway drop their books or whatever they have, I like to help them out. It makes me feel good and in a way free. It makes feel as if I am helping to serve my part! At school we don’t have to wear uniforms. We are free to wear what we want. As long as we do our part to follow the dress code the staff doesn’t really have a problem with what we wear.

In order to be free, you have a part to serve. You can’t just all of a sudden be free. On the other hand, serving others and them not acknowledging what you did is hard to feel free. When the people I served food to didn’t notice my help and said thank you, I didn’t feel free. I felt as if I had to do other community services to feel free. Some people believe that you only have to serve others once to become free, but in reality it’s all the times that add up that you make you really become free.
