Fear has infiltrated the streets of Portland: Reporter’s Notebook
This article addresses the riots that have been occurring for months in Portland, Oregon. It is written from the viewpoint of the author, Kanya Whitworth. Whitworth decides to visit Portland herself and quickly realizes how chaotic the scene really is. She says that the protesters were acting very aggressively by shoving the camera crew around and shining green lasers in their eyes. The protesters are very violent and focused on burning buildings and monuments in honor of the BLM protest. Many people feel that these protests are way out of hand and not even about the movement anymore. Personally, I agree that some of these people are just trying to be anarchists rather than protesters with a common goal. I feel that there should be much more peaceful protests.

Great article! Some of these riot are getting crazy and out of control. There has to be a better way of protesting. They need to not ruin other peoples lives that have nothing to do with it. Keep up the good work!

The article speaks a lot about what is going on out there. I agree that meaningless burning and destroying of property is wrong. It’s sad that this has to happen to get the government to listen. I think there is a way to protest without running through the streets destroying and burning property.

Very insightful article, Maddie. I agree with you in the sense that the meaningless burning and destruction of property in the name of BLM is actively going against what BLM is all about. It is sad to see that the only times that the people in power will pay any mind to us is when we are destroying their stuff. That still doesn’t justify these actions, though. Regardless, nice review.
