The Catastrophe of Fantastic Four (2015)
When it comes to being a movie fan, you tend to think that your favorite movies will always be amazing. I hate to say it, but that was not the case for the catastrophe that I watched over the summer. During one of my nights of the summer, I decided to watch the Fantastic Four (2015) movie. I have always been a fan of superhero movies, but this movie was flat out AWFUL.
First, I have loved the Fantastic Four since I was little. I always thought that Johnny Storm/Human Torch was one of the coolest characters in all of movies. I really enjoyed the Fantastic Four movies that came in 2005 and 2007 with the old cast. The problem with those movies are both of them were not amazing like some of the Avengers movies. They were both decent and watchable. The movie I watched this year came out in 2015, but I never watched it because I heard it was awful on social media from the fans and boy were they right. I was able to watch the movie on the brand new Disney+ app.
Next, when you watch a superhero movie, you expect there to be a lot of action and see the heroes use some of their amazing powers. In this movie, it took almost ONE HOUR of the movie for the four heroes to get their abilities. The movie was only one hour and 45 minutes. So right off the bat, the pacing in this movie was terrible. I almost wanted to stop watching because of how boring it was until they got their powers. This movie also had a brand new cast in it as well. I think they all played the characters in such a boring way. The acting was a bit cringe worthy because it sounded like they weren’t trying during the dialogue. I didn’t get attached to any of the characters in this movie. That’s what I love about movies. I want to be attached and actually care about the characters being presented. The writing, acting, pacing, and overall product of this movie is absolutely trash.
Furthermore, I didn’t really understand Doctor Doom in this movie. Victor Von Doom is supposed to be a billionaire doctor who attempts to go on a scientific mission in space but he, along with the rest of the Fantastic Four, get exposed to cosmic rays that gives them all their own superpowers. Once that happens, they are all rescued and put in a hospital to make sure that they are all safe. Doom gets fired from his job since they failed the mission. He blames Reed for the failed mission and tries to kill him and his friends. Once they defeat Doom, he drowns in water and we never see him again. In this movie, Doom wants to stay on whatever planet they got their powers from. The appearance of him looks bad in my opinion. He literally looks like tin foil wrapped all around him. Doctor Doom is one of my favorite villains, but the way he was presented in this movie was not good. I didn’t really enjoy him that much.
In conclusion, Fantastic Four (2015) was an awful movie. I probably won’t ever watch it again. If I’m in the mood to watch the Fantastic Four, I’ll just stick to watching the 2005 and 2007 versions of the group. I would not recommend this movie to anyone because of how bad it is. Some of my friends even said it was bad before I watched it, but I wanted to see it for myself. So next time a new reboot movie of one of your favorite superhero groups or whatever comes out, don’t go into it thinking it’s gonna be amazing as the first cast was because you could be wrong.

I remember watching this when I was younger and thinking how good it was but a little odd. When I watched it again just recently I must have been totally out of my mind to think it was good. So many flaws occurred and just did not feel right the entire movie. I did not even end up finishing it. Your points and reasoning were spot on and I would love to hear more movie critiques from you. Keep up the amazing work Preston!

I honestly don’t remember anything of this movie, but from the sounds of it that might be a good thing. Nice job on going into detail about your opinion on the movie; it makes it seem really solid. However, now you have me wanting to watch it again just to see how bad it really is. Maybe I’ll have the same views as you on the movie after a horrible experience, but that’ll just give me another reason to like this article with how accurate it possibly was.

I totally agree Gannon. This movie was not as good as it predecessors. The movie did not really go along the same story line as the comics. I know it is a reboot and they wanted to try something different, but they tried way to hard to do something out of the box. I agree with you on the original fantastic four movies being a lot better to watch. I don’t really think the actors did too bad considering the dialogue they were given for this movie. It was hard to connect with the characters because the movie took on a different perspective than the early two thousand movies that came before. Dr. Doom was a very bad villain in this movie too. He was definitely better in the other movies before. I also think this was a cringe worthy movie as well. With a budget of 155 million dollars and only making 167.9 million dollars, it definitely deserved to be the lowest grossing Fantastic Four film. With Marvel working on making it right here in a few years, I am definitely excited to see what’s going to happen. Great article Gannon!
