Tim Tebow Potential Return to NFL

While scrolling through The Drudge Report I stumbled upon a familiar name, Tim Tebow. Tebow was a former NFL quarterback who then later pursued a baseball career in the minor leagues. He played his last baseball game in 2019 and it is rumored he is awaiting a potential return to the NFL. However, this time as a tight end which is a very interesting choice. He is trying to get an offer from the Jaguars which would pair him with newly acquired first overall pick Trevor Lawrence.

Tebow is 33 years of age now after playing at least semi-professional in two sports. He is a former 25th overall pick in the NFL and had a decent short career. His baseball career was interesting, to say the least. He is very athletic but it seems like he hasn’t honed all that into one thing.

He had a look from three different teams in his career and just never impressed anyone too much to stick around. By 2012 he was done in the NFL and made an interesting switch to minor league baseball where he played from 2016-2019. Tebow played pretty well in the Fall League, A, and AA so then got moved up to AAA for two seasons (highest league until the Major League) where he struggled. Many people said he got moved to AAA for his name but in reality, he is a really good baseball player.

According to The Drudge Report the Jaguars coach, Urban Meyer, was also Tebow’s college coach which makes it more likely the Jaguars would pick him up. Also, the Jaguars have already had a discussion about signing him which is a good sign for Tebow. Meyer was quoted as saying “We’ll revisit Tim Tebow as a tight end in the near future. Another person quoted from the Jaguars organization was Jaguars GM Trent Baalke, he said “He worked out as a tight end and that’s the position he’d be playing” just clarifying he will be coming in as a possible tight end and not quarterback like previous times. Honestly, his three-year career was pretty good but he just sort of faded away. It wasn’t special however or he would have never left the league.

With more research, I did find out that he does have a playoff appearance in the NFL and played pretty solid in those two games. Tebow had the legs to run very well but his throwing accuracy was in jeopardy for his three years in the NFL. In 2011 he rushed for 660 yards in 14 games which is very good for a quarterback. Four years earlier in his college days, he was a Heisman Trophy winner. Winning the Heisman is a very high honor and it is widely known that if you win that you are most likely the best player in college football.

I think the Jaguars will give him a chance. I think he is too athletic to pass up on because after all you never know what he could do to help the team win. If this happens he will probably stay around for 2-3 years then be out of the league because 33 is pretty old for professional sports especially a physical game like football.
