A Review of Reminders of Him

As a person who likes to read many books, I am always looking for new authors and different genres of books. A newer author that I discovered in November 2021, Colleen Hoover, has become a very popular writer of romance novels. Her many popular titles are It Ends With Us, All Your Perfects, and my favorite one, Reminders of Him. Reminders of Him is one of Hoover’s newest books she wrote. It is a story about Kenna who just got released from prison and wants to find her baby girl, Diem, whom she had just about four years prior. Kenna and Scotty were the perfect couple, but when they both were drinking and Kenna decided to drive home, Scotty did not survive the crash. I don’t want to spoil the book, but the brief overview is when Kenna comes back to her hometown to find Diem, as she was placed in the custody of Scotty’s parents, and get back to her previous life.

As she has no money or belongings, she looks to find a job and runs into Scotty’s best friend, Ledger. Ledger does not recognize her until a couple of chapters later, and he is very angry to find out she is back in town and didn’t tell him who she was when they first got to know each other. Scotty’s Parents who have custody of Diem do not want anything to do with Kenna, as she killed their son. They are not wanting her back into their lives as she will remind them too much of the loss and grief they have from Scotty. The story then continues with Kenna fighting for a relationship with her daughter, Ledger, and Scotty’s parents while balancing trying to earn enough money to get her life back on track.

I personally would call this one of my favorite books I have ever read. I loved the way the author portrayed Kenna as a kind, giving, and fun girl, even if she did have a rough time in her past. This just shows that one little mistake doesn’t define who a person is as a whole. I love the way Colleen showed that Kenna’s main goal after prison was to fix the relationships that the mistake caused her to ruin. Colleen Hoover is currently my favorite author, and she has been for quite a few months now. I love how when reading her books, sometimes she makes it feel like the reader is in the story or connects with the characters as well. Every book I have read of hers has kept me interested to continue reading for hours and hours until I have completely finished the book.

Overall I loved this book and would recommend it to mainly anyone. Anyone who has previously read a book by Colleen Hoover would probably recommend the book without even reading it yet, only because of how good of an author she is. However, if you don’t like romance novels, this book probably isn’t for you, but if you do I would highly recommend this book to read!
