Does the Amount of Homework You Get Affect Your Mental Health?

Have you ever felt down because of the amount of school work you have been given by teachers in one day? Some teachers give students too much work to be done in one day. If you include extracurricular activities that normally last for hours after school, you don’t really have a lot of time to get your work done. I think it would be better if schools didn’t have homework.

When kids have a lot of homework to do, then it could cut into their sleeping schedule which can have negative effects on a kid. According to edsurge.com, “Research shows that excessive homework leads to increased stress, physical health problems and a lack of balance in students’ lives.” If teachers assign too much homework it could affect their mental health in a negative way. If schools really want to help a kid’s mental health, they could get rid of homework. This would lead to a growth in many kids’ mental health.

Some people say that homework doesn’t affect kids’ mental health. But, multiple studies have shown that homework does indeed affect a kid’s mental health. According to onlinedegrees.sandiego.edu, “Research showed that excessive homework is associated with high stress levels, physical health problems and lack of balance in children’s lives; 56% of the students in the study cited homework as a primary stressor in their lives.” This shows that if you were to give a kid more homework that their mental health would most likely get worse. In conclusion I think we should get rid of homework, for the kids’ mental health.
