Lewis Cass choir is preparing for a showcase on April 12. Choir director, Lauren Dubois, said, “Showcase is our performance that features just Kings Collective, our advanced high school choir. This performance is a “right of passage” for the advanced choir members and gives us a chance to celebrate them on a more individualized and intimate level.” The showcase will be performed at 7:00 p.m. where the choir will show off its talents. The Collective Lewis Cass Choir has been practicing to prepare for the concert. Lauren Dubois said, “Showcase has been rehearsed in class throughout the year, as we are performing songs that we’ve learned for other concerts, but students who are performing solos and duets will rehearse them with me individually as well”.
When preparing for the showcase a lot of things other than just singing songs go into it. You have to pick a theme and what songs to sing. Lauren Dubois said, “Our theme for this year’s showcase is songs about travel. It’s up to the King’s Collective director’s assistants to come up with a title and other ideas on how to portray this theme. Our director’s assistants this year are Will Rose and Liberty Preston”. Also Lauren included,” The choir will be singing a mix of old music that has been performed before as well as new music. We’re most excited to be singing “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts! The choir will sing group songs as well as have solo and duet performances from Collective choir members”.
One of the many talented students is Jenny Romero. Jenny is a junior soprano and has been in the Collective Choir for two years. This is Jenny’s second showcase with the choir. Jenny said, “My performance song for the showcase is “These Boots Are Made for Walkin” by Nancy Sinatra.” The showcase is more of an intimate concert; it can apply many different emotions. Jenny said, “Showcase is a time to express myself and what choir means to me. Showcase gives me the opportunity to show others what collective is all about, and to encourage new collective members to want to give it their best.” The collective choir is the advanced choir and takes an audition to make it. Jenny said, “Our showcase consists of many hard workers who all deserve to be there and perform.”
A leader in the choir is senior alto, Kennedy Thorpe. This year’s showcase is her third and final one. Thorpe said, ”My feelings surrounding the showcase are mostly bittersweet. It seems like our senior year went so fast and now it’s setting in that it is almost over. I am excited to be performing with this group for one of the last times and to soak up some of the last memories.” As a senior your solo song is very important because it is your last hoorah. Thorpe says, ”I am singing “The Climb” for showcase, this song is something that has always helped me to be motivated and give me a positive outlook. I would listen to “The Climb” before every one of my cross country meets, it was my tradition and just gave me a little extra good luck. I am excited to be singing it for showcase.”
If you enjoy dancing, singing, and entertainment then the showcase is perfect for you. Come support your Lewis Cass Collective Choir on April 12 at 7:00 p.m.
