When most people are asked their favorite subject in school the common responses are often Physical Education, Ag, or Band. But others have different tastes. Looking back on the years, people reminisce about memories made in their Spanish classes, Chemistry room, and most importantly, the lunch room. Current students at Lewis Cass were asked what their most memorable meals were and elaborated more. Here is a look at their tray.
Whether you bring your lunch from home or have the school make it for you we all have two things in common. We are going to eat, and we are going to eat what we like. When students were asked what their favorite school lunch of all time was, the most common answer was the beloved bosco sticks. With over 30 students selecting this as their favorite, you may be wondering how this simple meal could steal the hearts of so many American teens. Most answered it was simply because they are a classic, or because you can not go wrong with bread and cheese. One of the most notable responses was “bosco sticks cus theyre bomb.” So simple, yet so true. Coming in close with the bosco sticks are the nachos, and chicken mashed potato bowl. Why, you may be wondering. Well, one student said, “My favorite school lunch is the nachos. They are very good, and I like how the chips taste with the cheese and meat on them making it even better.” The sweet symphony of this meal makes it a fan favorite. Another said that they chose the mashed potato bowl because “-it has the most food and tastes the best. The chicken is very good, and I like potatoes..” So although you may not agree with someone’s taste buds, you are sure to find a dish that agrees with yours.
The question that followed this very important one was, “If you could have one school lunch meal every week what would it be and why?” Students had various answers but bosco sticks continued its reign over these students. They again had the same supporting reasons as to why they enjoyed them but this quote stood out the most. “Bosco sticks because of the fact that it’s delicious and it’s always a good day when I have it.” This particular student not only recommended the food for its quality but also how they felt when consuming it. Very deep. Chicken mashed potato bowl was also a close second. This student not only highlighted the importance of taste but its quality, “They’re amazing and it’d help keep you full the rest of the day.” It’s clear that students do not just appreciate the taste, but the importance of it sustaining them.
When you graduate high school, people often ask you what you think you will miss the most. Most students would say it is the sports they participated in or the fun memories they made in class. I chose to dig a little deeper and ask as to what meal they would reminisce on the most. Most students actually answered that they did not enjoy the cafeteria meals enough to truly miss them, but some responses differed. One student said, “Probably the nachos honestly, I’m always looking forward to them.” With the popularity of the nachos, it is clear the lunch ladies at Lewis Cass are doing something right. Another very common reason why students will have a hankering for these foods is simply because, unlike what your mom says when you ask for food from McDonald’s, they do not have it at home. Like this student said, “Pork tacos because I don’t have it at home.” The uniqueness of this cuisine makes students crave it even more.
After this article, we can conclude two very clear points. Bosco sticks will always remain a fan favorite and students do not know how to elaborate their feelings very well. While going through high school the miniscule topic of school lunch truly will not be highlighted but it surely will not be forgotten. This not only informed you of students’ top tray picks but also helped you remember why you enjoy the things you do. The food may be the main topic but the feelings and memories associated with them are what should truly be highlighted.
