America has been going crazy ever since November of 2022. After the release of Taylor Swift’s tenth album, Midnights, she announced the beginning of her world tour called “The Eras Tour.” Her tour would consist of every album she has made. Out of each album she would choose a few songs to perform live. Swift’s last performance of the tour in the United States was located in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Lucas Oil Stadium from November 1, 2, and 3.
Taylor Swift traveled all across the world to twenty-two different countries and sold around eleven million tickets. “The Eras Tour” has taken the title from Elton John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour being the most popular world tour of all time. John’s Farewell tour grossed over nine hundred million dollars and lasted five years in total. Grossing over one billion dollars not including “The Eras Tour” movie or merchandise that was sold, “The Eras Tour” easily earns the top spot as the number one world tour. Taylor Swift visited twenty-two different countries and performed 152 different times.
The streets and sidewalks in downtown Indianapolis were filled with glittery dresses and bright colors. It seemed like every restaurant or business down every block was decked out in preparation for the thousands of people that would be visiting. Senior, Maryn Zeck, was fortunate enough to be able to attend such an amazing tour as well. Maryn said, “My sister and I were pretty nervous before, we were unsure what to expect, but once we got there the environment was so energetic and kind.” From the start of the week of the concert, the Indiana Convention Center was open to anyone wanting to purchase Eras Tour merchandise, including T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, and more. At the convention center, there was what seemed to be a never-ending line, especially on the days of the concerts. It would have been rewarding to be able to get the merch after waiting in line for incredibly long and it probably was for the people who did wait. In the stadium, there was another booth set up with merch, but by the time we arrived, everything was basically sifted through, and only a few items remained.
The opener was a female artist Gracie Abrams and she gave an outstanding performance, Taylor couldn’t have chosen anyone better. But, once everyone filled their seat, the timer counted down the seconds before Taylor appeared on stage opening her performance with the song “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.” With every remarkable outfit change and choreography for each and every song and era showed how much thought and effort went into putting this show on. If there was a choice of which era was the most impressive it would be a fairly hard decision, but personally, there might be one that could be slightly better than the rest.
As the crowd watched the snake slither down the stage, the stadium lit up with the lights on each wrist and every person knew exactly what was about to come. The sound effects of heels walking on the ground and the strobe lights flashing on each beat created the perfect entrance for Taylor in her iconic one-leg, one-shoulder jumpsuit. Along with many more people in the audience, I personally can claim this as the most entertaining era of the entire performance which was the “Reputation” era. The energy Taylor Swift radiated throughout Lucas Oil Stadium during this particular section was unmatched.
For the people who were unable to attend this magical event, luckily for them, there was an Eras Tour movie titled “Taylor Swift The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” released in theaters and on Disney+ on October 13, 2023. The experience of seeing the concert in person is a whole different sight than watching it in a theater, but there are still some pros and cons to this comparison. Seeing the tour on screen allows people to see everything that is happening on stage, while a person seeing it live may have a seat that is pretty far away from the stage and may not able to have a clear view. A downside of watching the movie is that not every single song that is performed live is featured in it. All in all, if someone were not able to attend the concert, the movie is a great secondary option and does not disappoint a bit.
Through every performance, traveling across the world, going through forty-four songs in three and a half hours for three nights in a row, Taylor Swift is more than an icon. She has inspired so many individuals and has become an outstanding role model to the younger generation. Titled the world’s most popular world tour, “The Eras Tour” deserves it all and more, this has become one of the most memorable personal experiences ever.
