According to Christopher Dring of The Game Business.com, he said Steam is releasing its brand new console in early 2026. This console has many improvements compared to their disappointing attempt back in 2015. One of the biggest issues that the console had was its game library. Steam had not produced enough games for the console when it was first released in 2015. The console also struggled with loading games because of the weak game library. Consumers were not interested in this console, not only because of all these problems but also because of its high cost. Steam was pricing this console at the same price as other gaming personal computers (PC’s). This made them unattractive to customers when they could just build a PC for the same price. The entire console was a fail with only a few hundred thousand sold worldwide. In comparison, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sold in the tens of millions during that same time period. (Dring, 2025)

The Kings’ Courier got some feedback from fellow gamers, Kyler Gray and Roberto Madrigal, both consumers of Sony and Microsoft. Kyler was asked what he thought about the new Steam console. He replied, ”I think that the Steam console is pretty cool and I’m excited to see all that is available on the console.” When asked how he feels about having to use different consoles to play different games, he stated, “I don’t like that I have different consoles; it makes it pretty frustrating to play games that I like.” Roberto Madrigal had this to say about how prices affect his thoughts about consoles, “I feel like the prices on consoles definitely determine whether I buy the console or not.“ Madrigal continued his response to whether he would upgrade to the new Steam console, and he said, “I would definitely upgrade to the new Steam console because I think that it is way better than any other console.”
A shocking fact about Steam’s new console is that it is relatively cheap. It is estimated to be around $400-1000 USD. Both Sony and Microsoft have their consoles at $649.99. With Steam being this inexpensive, it makes it hard for Microsoft and Sony to be able to compete.
