2026 is officially in full swing as the second month is already underway. This past month of January brought with it freezing temperatures, New Year’s Resolutions, and lots of snow. As we head into the month of February, we may not be able to escape the cold weather, but we are able to look forward to many exciting things. This short month provides events such as Groundhog Day, Black History Month, and the beloved Valentine’s Day. There is one event, however, that ranks high for many Americans. That is the grand finale to the National Football League (NFL) season: the Super Bowl.
Each year, millions tune in to watch this famed competition. This year, the contest features the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. These two teams have proven to be the best up to this point in the season, and the final champion will soon be crowned. Both squads finished the regular season with a record of 14-3 and have not let up thus far in the postseason. These teams have worked hard to get here and have a final chance to showcase their strength on the biggest stage.
These lineups are both stacked full with star studded talent. The Patriots are home to one of the league’s new top performers in their quarterback, Drake Maye. Maye has really emerged this year as one of the league’s best as he “led the NFL in completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating, QBR and expected points added per play during the regular season,” according to CBSsports.com’s Jared Dubin. Maye has accomplished all of this in just his second year in the league and has brought the Patriots back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the Tom Brady era. The Patriots’ other top performers include running back, Rhamondre Stevenson, and wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. These three are looking to keep performing well in their final game, but will be faced with talented opponents in the Seattle Seahawks lineup.
This season, the Seahawks have been led by their first-year quarterback, Sam Darnold. Darnold has played in the league for eight years, but recently had a breakout season with the Minnesota Vikings. He has continued that hot streak this season with Seattle. Darnold has performed tremendously up to this point this year, including “The NFC title game against the Rams, which was arguably the best game of his NFL career.” (Dubin, 2025). Also, the Seahawks are home to outstanding wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Nijigba. Smith-Nijigba is Darnold’s top target and will pose a great threat to the Patriots’defense. According to UsaToday.com’s Tom Viera, “Smith-Nijigba is a game-changer, and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak uses him in various ways that will make it tough for the Patriots’ top cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, to shadow him.” Not only will the Seahawks turn to their star-studded wide receiver, but they will also turn to running back, Kenneth Walker III. CBSSports.com’s Jared Dubin also stated, “Known for his explosive runs, Walker isn’t the most consistent runner on a down-to-down basis, but he is a threat to score any time he touches the ball.” The Patriots will definitely have a tall task ahead of them in containing these skillful Seahawks.
Overall, this match-up should be a close one. With both sides posing talent and experience, it is set to be a Super Bowl well worth the watch. The game will be shown on NBC and several other streaming services (Peacock, DirecTV Stream, Sling TV, YouTube TV, NFL+, and Hulu + Live TV). Tune in at 6:30 p.m. and watch this well-awaited match-up unfold.
From the sidelines to the headlines, this is Lauren, signing out.
