Scottie Scheffler added another milestone to his growing resume with his twentieth Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour victory. With the win, Scheffler became the second youngest player to achieve that mark. The win at the American Express Tournament is another sign of his steady dominance on tour and highlights just how quickly he has risen to the top of the game.
Sports journalist Mike Peter from the BBC said, “Scottie was the second youngest player behind Tiger Woods and third fastest when comparing starts to wins.” People continue to compare Scheffler’s current dominance to Tiger’s dominance when he competed. Scheffler thinks that the comparisons are “silly.” According to Alistar Cameron from the PGA Tour’s website, Scottie said, “He looks to emulate a demeanor and mental attitude learned from playing with the 82-time PGA TOUR winner.” The two players’ careers overlapped for two years (2020-2021), and the duo played together once, in the final round of the 2020 Masters Tournament.
PGA writer Alistair Cameron quoted Scottie, “We’re in twentieth place, or whatever, going into Sunday at the Masters. Tiger has won five Masters; he’s got no chance of winning the tournament,” Scheffler said. “Then we showed up on the first hole, and I was watching him read his putt, and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this guy is in it right now.’” Scheffler saw how Tiger never gave up and kept the same intensity no matter if he was winning by ten strokes or at the bottom of the field. Woods then scored a septuple-bogey, a ten at the par three twelfth hole, and went on to birdie five of the last six holes (PGA, 2025). After Scheffler played with Tiger, he was so amazed by some of the shots by Woods that he began using Tiger’s irons. As of early 2026, Scheffler still uses the Taylormade P7TW irons, which were custom-made for Tiger by Taylormade (Cameron, 2026).
Scottie received his tour card in 2020 and won his first PGA Tour event in 2022. In 2022, Scheffler won four events, including The Masters Tournament, when he defeated Rory McIlroy (Masters.com). In 2022, he also won the World Golf Championships by Dell Technologies, the Arnold Palmer Invitational by Mastercard, and the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Patrick McDonald from CBS Sports said, “In 2023, he had the most top-five finishes, top-ten finishes, and most money earned ($21 million).” Scheffler only had two wins due to inconsistent putting performances: the Players Championship and the Waste Management Open. In 2024, he won his most yet with seven, the FedEx Tour Championship, the Travelers Championship, the Memorial Tournament by Workday, the RBC Heritage, the Masters Tournament, the Players Championship, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational by Mastercard. When he won the Players Tournament in 2024, Scheffler became the only person to win back-to-back years. In 2025, Scottie won six: the Procore Championship, the BMW Championship, the Open Championship, the Memorial Tournament by Workday, the PGA Championship, and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
This year, Scottie Scheffler is off to a strong start; he has played one tournament and won by four strokes. Scottie has proven he is one of the best to ever play the game and will continue to put his name on lists of accomplishments. This year, he has the opportunity to do just that. Scottie needs to win the US Open at Shinecock Hills to become only the seventh golfer ever to complete a career grand slam. Fans can watch him compete this weekend in the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He has won there twice, so it will be interesting to see if Scottie can do it again.
