A Christmas surprise

On Christmas morning of 2005, I was the first to wake up and go investigate all the new found presents under the Christmas tree. When I walked into the living room where we kept our tree, I was stunned to see the amount of presents. The wrapping paper was all colors of the rainbow, but my eyes went straight to the largest present. This mystery box had no name to which it belonged, but I just knew, somehow, that it was meant for me. Sitting there in the living room, I imagined all the things it could possibly be. Mymind ranged from a new bike all the way to a box filled with my favorite candy .

On Christmas it’s my family’s rule that no one may open their presents until the whole family is up and ready to watch.  Presents  are all opened one by one and my anticipation grows slowly but surely ready for the contents of the large mystery box to be revealed. We were nearing the end of the pile when my dad announces that the last present will be going to a very special young lady very near and dear to his heart. I was so excited I could barley move, but then as I was walking to the tree to claim the the thing I had been waiting for all morning, my dad calls to me and says: “Sweetheart, can you help me carry this over to your sister?”  I stopped dead in my tracks at this question. I did not know what to say nor do, so I helped carry the present to my younger sister then began to walk to my room. My dad sees me walkinbg away and shouts: “I wouldn’t leave now, you won’t want to miss this.”

I almost kept walking, but then I realized I had been waiting to see the contents of this box all morning and I wasn’t gonna miss it now. The whole family sat down and began to record my younger sister ripping the paper right off then came the hard part. My sister had to get through all the tape on the outside of the box. This was a chore on its own. In about 15 minutes she had all the tape off and was slowly opening the lid of the box when all of the sudden I see her face go blank and she pulls out a small piece of paper was a simple sentence: “ I told you if you didn’t clean your room you would be left out of all the Christmas fun, but it’s Christmas, so I guesss this will have to do. Marry Christmas! –Love mom” At this statement the whole family besides my sister of course let out a roar of laughter. That was one Christmas I will never forget.
