JV Kings Dominate the Comets

The JV Kings dominated the Eastern Comets last night with a score of 50-6. The Kings were so far ahead the clock didn’t stop the whole second half.

The Comets lone score came on a kick-off return were the Kings weren’t lined up correctly. Other than that, the Comets couldn’t get going offensively. Junior Levi Thomas started the Kings offense off right on only the third play of the game not including kick-offs. Thomas scored on a sweep to the left side close to a fifty yard rush. With the extra point of Connor Price, the Kings took a 7-6 lead. The Kings got a three and out, forcing the Comets to punt. On only the second play of that drive, Thomas again scored on a sweep to the left side from nearly the same distance, putting him close to being a 100 yard rusher in only the first four minutes of the game. On the ensuing kick-off, the Kings nearly recovered the ball but still stopped the Comets return man to only a short return. Another junior running back Riley Bower scored on a sweep play to make the score 21-6 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, sophomore Dalton Key scored on a 60 yard pass play from quarterback Alec Eurit. The extra point went wide left making the score 27-6. The defense, however, made up for the missed extra point by getting a safety when the Eastern Punter landed on the back line of the endzone after fielding a high snap.  The safety gave the Kings two points and the Comets had to kickoff to the Kings. The Kings then gave the ball to junior Niles Wise for a touchdown run. With the extra point the Kings took a 36-6 halftime lead.

The Kings came out of halftime with another huge defensive stand. Coach Mannering always says that we are going to see the opposing team’s best football within the first three minutes of the second half. Key scored another touchdown with a ten yard touchdown pass from Eurit. After the extra point the Kings had a 43-6 lead. After the Kings gave up the kickoff, the Comets return man didn’t have many more return yards. The kings only had two more drives with Riley Bower scoring on the first of two. The next drive, the Kings took a knee to run out the clock.

With a final score of 50-6, the Kings varsity team hopes they can do the same thing to Eastern on Friday night at Cass.
