Basketball Banquet

The Boys’ Basketball team ended their season with the banquet Tuesday night. The banquet was a great way to celebrate the end of the year and the exceptional season that the teams had. Many delicious desserts were at the banquet. The parents also came to watch everyone receive their different awards and listen to the coaches talk about their team and their players.

Many awards were given out to cheerleaders and players. Of course everyone received their freshman, junior varsity, or varsity points, but there were also many other different awards and accomplishments. For the cheerleaders, Katie Asher received most improved cheerleader. Kylie Quaglio received the award for the cheerleader with the most spirit. Kelsey Smith received the set a good example award and the mental attitude award. Maddie Oakley Received the award for most valuable cheerleader. Also, Jael Forker received her letterman’s jacket. For the players, the seniors won most of the awards.  Each senior received an award for something they accomplished over the year. Also, Ryan Bixler and Evan Ohman received the all-conference award. Ryan also received his letterman’s jacket.

I think many of the seniors felt sad as they reminisced on all the great times they had throughout the season, but I also think they were proud of what they had accomplished with their teammates and their coaches. Coach Kitchel talked about each senior and what he had done well during the season. Other coaches also talked about their teams.

The Kings had a good season. The freshmen team was undefeated and both the JV and varsity finished with a 500 record. One of the things Coach Kitchel talked about was the struggles that the varsity had to overcome to win games. He said our season was like a “roller coaster.” We didn’t start off too well as we played some tough teams, but then we went on an eight-game winning streak. Then we went on a seven-game losing streak. Our team overcame this and had some good wins going into the tournament. The Kings had a good season and the players made a lot of good memories with their teammates, but now coaches will start to look ahead and begin preparing for next season.
