Wrestling Kings defeat Northwestern

The Kings wrestling team traveled to Northwestern to beat the Tigers in the last dual meet of the year. The Kings started of strong with a great performance by Alex Myers (JV 138) who beat his opponent by 15 earning a tech fall. Even though this match did not count for the varsity matches, it did get the Kings a little more energized.

The kings led off with Junior Drake Hall (145) who made quick work with Northwestern’s only senior, Dillon Waggoner. Hall won by pin fall in the first period. Then Senior Gage Lytle and Junior Hunter Carden were awarded a forfeits at the 152 and 160 weight classes. After these wins, Kings Wesley Matthews suffered a tough loss to Northwestern’s Evan Cardwell which was followed by a pin fall for Cass senior Niles Wise at the 182 weight class. Niles match was very short lasting a little over 45 seconds. Then Junior Kirt Ohlemacher had a great win after coming back from an injured shoulder. This brought the Kings up to 28 team points and the Tigers to 6 points.

The KIngs then forfeited the 220 weight class and bumped Junior Azarius Roberts up to 285. Roberts won by pin fall late in the first period. This brought the team score to KIngs 34 and Tigers 12. Then Kings Sophomore Noah Miller and Freshman Cade Cox earned a Forfeits at 106 and 126. Then Northwestern received forfeits at the 113 and 120 weight classes which made the team score Kings 46 Tigers 24. Then Kings Freshman Blake Jones suffered a tough loss at the hand of Tigers Hunter Kellogg at the 132 weight class.

Then the final match of the night was between Kings Junior Cy Wise and the Tigers Josiah Riddle. This 138 weight class match came down to the wire with Riddle leading the first two periods by a slim margin. Then Kings Cy Wise made a tremendous comeback late in the third. Even though Wise fought hard, he lost 7-8. This made The Final Team Score: Kings 46 Tigers 33. This brought the Kings to 17-4 on the season.
