Wrestlers set record at Twin Lakes Sectional

Drake Hall and Niles Wise earn sectional titles

Last Saturday, the wrestling Kings took to Twin Lakes Sectional hoping to regain the title again. Last year, they ended up placing first and were hoping to take home a victory once more. Sadly, they couldn’t clutch the winning title, but they placed second and broke a personal team record of most wrestlers to advance to regionals, 10 in all. The boys wrestled hard and it showed.

The Kings had ten boys place: two in 1st, two in 2nd, 2 two in 3rd, and 4 in 4th. They all will be advancing to the Logansport Regional this upcoming weekend and hope to advance to semi-state from there. All ten boys had an exceptional day with many going farther than they were originally seeded.

Drake Hall defied odds by placing 1st in the 145 weight class. Originally, he was seeded 3rd, but wrestled hard and made it to the championship match. The match was well fought with Hall winning by points. The final score of the match was 9-1 with Hall cruising to an easy victory.

Niles Wise also placed 1st after being seeded 1st in the 182 weight class. He ended up winning a well fought battle for the championship round. He and his opponent, Nick Price from Pioneer, ended up going into overtime with Niles scoring one point for escaping late into the overtime period. He won 3-2 in a gripping match.

The Kings’s Kirt Olemacher and Azarius Roberts both placed 2nd after losing in the championship match. Brandon Roberston and Noah Miller both placed third at the end of the day. Finally, Hunter Carden, Wesley Mathews, Gage Lytle, and Cade Cox all placed fourth on the day.

The Kings wrestled very hard on Saturday, and Nate Burrous, the head coach, said, “I thought we wrestled really well today. We brought 12 and we placed 12 and we have 10 moving on to next weekend and that ties a school record for us.”
So far the Kings have had a very good run in the tournament and hope to do it again this weekend at Logansport for regionals.
