The Voice Review

The Voice Review

The Voice, a singing show that is voted #1 on NBC, has been around for five seasons. This show is unique from all other singing shows like American Idol and X Factor. The judges are turned around in their chairs facing away from the contestant. All they have to choose from is the person’s voice. If they like what they hear, then the judge will push a button which signifies “I want you.” After the judges press the button they get to turn around and see the contestant for the first time. If no other judge turns around, then the judge who did turn around gets the contestant for his or her team. If more than one judge turns around, then the contestant gets to choose which judge he or she wants. If none of the judges turn around, then the contestant is not on the show anymore; however, some are asked to come back the next season.

There are four judges/coaches on the voice. The judges turn into coaches once all of the open spots on their team are filled. Blake Shelton, country superstar, Adam Levine, lead singer of Maroon 5, Cee Lo Green, singer of Forget You, and Christina Aguilera, the only female judge on The Voice, are the judges/coaches this season. Shakira, international pop superstar, and Usher, R&B singer song-songwriter, will take the place of Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green next season.

There are several aspects of the show that I enjoy. I like the fact the judges don’t get to see the person before they pick them. They are choosing purely by what they hear and not by what they see. I think that draws people to this particular singing show. I believe people like the fact that they won’t be judged by the way they look, but by the quality of their voice. I also enjoy the knock-out rounds. The two contestants from the same team sing the same song, which is chosen for them by their coach. I like that the contestants have to work together to make the song and performance be the best it can. Without the help from the other contestant the performance will be a flop and one of the contestants might not get saved or stolen. If the contestants coach doesn’t pick them, then the other coaches get the opportunity to steal the contestant.

I love the fact that the coaches get to choose another famous singer, who is not already on the show, to help them coach the contestants until the live rounds begin, or American’s time to vote. I think this would make the unforgettable experiment even more memorable for the contestants. The contestants get to live their dream and meet incredible artists to guide them on their way.

Even though I love this television series there are still some things I don’t like about The Voice. Before they show a contestant they tell us about their story. Obviously they can’t do this with all of the contestants that are on the show, but they show the majority of people that do get chosen to be on The Voice. The part I don’t like is when they show the story of people that don’t get chosen. When the show tells us about their family, where they grew up, and what it would mean to them if they could be on The Voice the viewer get a sense of understanding and compassion for that person. You see how much they want this opportunity, how hard they have been working, and the life changing results of getting chosen. I already know how much $100,000 and a recording deal at Universal Republic Records can change a person’s life, but you still want each person you hear the story of to win the show.  I feel terrible for the person after they describe certain things about themselves, and in my opinion, are an excellent singer, and then they don’t get picked. I can see in a sense why the show does this. They want the viewer to form a connection with the contestant so that way you have someone to root for in the season. I still love this show, and other than what was listed, I don’t have a complaint for the show. I would recommend this show to anyone and I thoroughly enjoy this series.
