Thanksgiving should be celebrated, not ignored

“Holidays bring out the best in everyone” is something heard every year. The accuracy of the statement is low due to the amount of violence and rage that occurs during Black Friday shopping. People go crazy, trample workers, elbow their way through lines, and fight over unnecessary items. Many of the items can be purchased online or even at a better price later in the holidays.

Thanksgiving is a popular holiday because people get to see their missed relatives, chow down on delicious food, and just take a day to be thankful for their life that they live. Personally, I believe that people are sufficiently happier on Thanksgiving because of the memories being made with family. Thanksgiving is now becoming an over-looked holiday such as Veterans Day. People just don’t care as much as they should. Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with families and friends, and it Black Friday sales begin earlier and earlier.

I don’t understand how people can go from being so thankful for everything one day to being hateful and crazy the next. Black Friday is a popular shopping day that always occurs the day after Thanksgiving. The unbeatable sales almost make it impossible for people to avoid this shopping trip, not to mention that most people enjoy getting their Christmas shopping done early. The sales usually begin early in the morning or even late on Thanksgiving night. People line up one by one and not so patiently wait for the flat screen TV and surround sound that they can’t live without.

Cutting in line used to be a big deal around the ages from 4-6. This continues between adults on Black Friday. A shopper never knows what could happen when trying to beat someone inside a store when they were there first. Police are patrolling almost everywhere on Black Friday. People are just out of control and will do anything for something even as little as a pair of socks. I remember reading a story online about how a lady had pepper-sprayed another shopper for an X-Box at Wal-Mart, and how an employee had been trampled to death because the shoppers couldn’t wait any longer. THIS IS NOT ALL RIGHT. An X-box can be purchased almost anywhere, not to mention that they can be ordered online as well.

Maybe the holidays don’t always bring out the best in people. The dramatic transition from people’s attitude on Thanksgiving to Black Friday is relentless. The sales will most likely occur again near Christmas.  Spend the time with family rather than going crazy over material items.
