Australian Open 2022

Australian+Open+2022

Covid-19 Vaccines, Hot Weather, and great tennis are what everyone is talking about when it comes to the 2022 Australian Open. The First Grand Slam of the Tennis Calendar year started with a bang with the news of World Number 1 Novak Djokovic being deported from Australia for not having the vaccine, starting the tournament off on a weird footing but nevertheless still great entertainment.

The 2022 Australian Open was an amazing tournament with a wonderful ending with Rafael Nadal vs Daniil Medvedev. 5-hour long classic that ended off with Nadal coming back from 2 sets down to win his 21st grand slam. Nadal played one of his best hard court sea

son tournaments in recent years in this audition of the Australian Open. Medvedev, yes not the fan-favorite, still played a wonderful tournament and the tennis world should give the world number 2 his respect.

Let’s begin with the players that upset me when it came to the Australian Summer Circuit. First, Alexander Zverev of Germany. The current world number 3 lost in the round of 16 to the young Canadian Denis Shapovalov. Zverev went back to his prior 2020 U.S Open form and went to hitting very weak forehands and hitting soft second serves. Next is Stefanos Tsitsipas, who made the semi-finals but he feels like a B+ player in grand slam play. He can make it but just can’t get over the hump.

The Winners of the Tournament in my opinion are Jannik Sinner, Denis Shapovalov, and Felix Auger- Aliassime. All played wonderful tennis for all being so young. Denis gave the champ Nadal his second hardest match and if he was a little bit smarter he could have gone to the finals quite possibly. Felix had two sets to love advantage over Medvedev but couldn’t pull it off over the U.S Open Champ. Jannik at only 20 years old playing like he is should scare every player on tour.

The Australian Open is my fourth favorite grand slam out of the big four but it produces matches each year that are legendary. The time gap between time in Australia compared to Galveston, Indiana is one of the biggest difficulties watching this event. A wonderful tournament put on by Tennis Australia and another huge congratulation to Rafael Nadal on winning grand slam 21. French Open coming soon in May of 2022. Can’t Wait!!!
