A Review of Purple Hearts

A Review of Purple Hearts
Many people in this country have received a purple heart in the military. In the movie Purple Hearts, Cassie and Luke fake a marriage to receive benefits from the military. This movie was the best movie I have ever watched. It was a tear-jerking, but also a very realistic movie.

At the beginning of the movie, Luke and Cassie meet through a mutual friend at her work. For most of the movie, they hate each other.  Both Cassie and Luke need the benefits of being married; Cassie needs it for healthcare, and Luke needs it to pay back someone he owes a lot of money. Once they decided to get married, they had to do an elopement. After their elopement they had to stay at a hotel the military makes them stay at for one night. The next day Luke was deployed. During his deployment, they had to talk on the phone,  video chat, and act like they were in love with each other. One night when Luke was on patrol,  a bomb went off where he was. He was later rushed to a hospital in Germany and then sent to a hospital back home after his surgery. Cassie got the call and had to figure out how to reach Luke’s brother to tell him the news.

Cassie found Luke’s brother, or so she thought. She went to the address she had found to tell his brother, but it ended up being his father. Luke and his father were not on good terms for many years before this time. Luke’s father found out about the marriage, and his son enlisted in the military. His father was very angry but also worried like any father would be. They all went to the hospital to visit Luke, who had broken both of his legs. During the hospital visit, Luke told Cassie her best friend Frankie had passed away in the bombing. When Luke was discharged, Cassie and he were now forced to move in with each other. Throughout the time of them living together, Cassie and Luke fell in love. They got into a huge fight the night of Cassie’s biggest performance ever and Cassie kicked Luke out of her house. Later that night of the fight they were turned in for faking their marriage. Luke was taken back to the base and was later going to be tried. During the trial, he was found guilty and took the blame so it wouldn’t ruin Cassie’s rising music career. Luke was then sent to jail for six months. After his six months in jail,  Luke, Cassie, and their dog (Peaches) live happily ever after.

Overall, Purple Hearts was a very good movie. I would recommend it to people who love romance/ drama movies. This movie has brought awareness to what many families in the military go through as Cassie, and Luke did. Purple hearts is a very realistic movie. I will be watching this movie many more times, and I hope you will feel the same way!
