Wednesday, on September Fourth, the Lewis Cass Junior High football team squared off against Peru at home. Roy Zamora, an assistant coach for the team during his interview. said, “This year is going to be good and fun.” He also stated “‘The players are reaching their full potential and representing Cass in a first class manner and showing great sportsmanship.” Roy was very happy with the performance of the 7th and 8th grade game against Peru.
Lewis Cass had a really good win with the score being 36-0 for both teams. Everyone on the team did their best. The first set of down in the first quarter with Landyn Perry intercepting the pitch to the half back and recovering the ball. The first touchdown for the seventh graders was with Wyatt Billiard running right behind the center for a touchdown.
Halfback Myles Johnson was interviewed by Jude Bruner. We asked Myles what his favorite part of the game was. He replied, “I liked running the ball and scoring.” He was also asked how it feels to be new to the team. He said, “It feels weird because you have to learn the plays from scratch.” Finally he was asked what position he would play if he didn’t play halfback. “I would play wide receiver because you can catch the ball and run routes.”
The Kings junior high football team has multiple games to come. Feel free to contact a player or coach to get the schedule. We have one more interview with Landyn Perry. He stated, “I have been playing football since fourth grade. My favorite position to play is defensive line. I have liked football since I was seven.” The first play of the game Landyn Perry had an interception for the kings. On the next set of downs, with the kings in possession of the ball they march down the field for a Lewis Cass touchdown. Be sure to check out one of the seventh and eighth graders football games!
