When the final school bell rings and summer officially begins, students erupt in cheers of summer vacation! Everyone gets to sleep in, no worries about studying for tests, or completing homework late at night. Unfortunately, this excitement only lasts about one week before the phrase “I’m bored” starts creeping into every conversation and thought. Without constantly practicing for sports or working all day for a job, it can be difficult to find things to do in the long summer months. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to have fun and stay busy that are just a short drive from Walton.
One of the best options on a boring day is to spend time outdoors. Both Kokomo and Logansport offer a wide variety of parks where visitors can walk, bike, kayak, or just enjoy a scenic spot for a picnic or to hang out with friends (Ingram, 2026). Some of the most popular parks are France Park and Riverside Park in Logansport, and Highland Park and Jackson Morrow Park in Kokomo. If hiking and kayaking are not piquing someone’s interest, both Kokomo and Logansport offer aquatic facilities, Muehlhausen Aquatic Center in Logansport and Kokomo Beach in Kokomo, where people can swim in a pool, lazy river, or play on the slides and splash pad. All of these options are great for a hot summer day, whether someone is feeling more adventurous or like splashing around.
Hanging around the same places most of the time can get boring, but there is an amazing park that has something to do for everyone and is only a short drive from Logansport. From thriller rides like the Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane to walking along the boardwalk eating and playing games, Indiana Beach has something everyone will enjoy (Indiana Beach, 2026). Indiana Beach offers stores to shop at, games to play along the boardwalk, roller coasters for thrilling rides with friends, and even a waterpark with slides and a lazy river. Indiana Beach is like a “mini vacation” located only a quick trip from home.
Not every day during the summer is sunshine and rainbows. It may rain, be too hot or too cold, or no outdoor activities sound enjoyable. Luckily, places like Gravity Trampoline Park offer fun activities to try indoors. Gravity has trampolines all over the facility with dodgeball and basketball, but for something a little more relaxing, movie theaters may sound more interesting. If going out does not sound entertaining, then trying a new creative activity at home, like bracelet making or having a movie marathon, could fill the boring days (Ingram, 2026). Not every exciting summer day has to be spent outdoors. Some of the best memories could be made by participating in creative activities with friends.
So this summer, instead of being stuck at home with no idea what to do, use one of these ideas and plan with friends or family to make summer more enjoyable. With a little creativity, no one needs to be stuck at home alone this summer. There is something for everyone to enjoy, so people can make the most out of this summer.
