Many of you guys know about the shooting that happened in Georgia on the 4th of September. Four people were killed, two of them being teachers and two of them being students. The victims were 14 year old student Mason Schermerhorn, Christian Angulo, Richard Aspinwall a teacher, Christina Irimie also a teacher. Authorities also found a list with five other schools with Apache high school first on the list. The teachers that were killed were math teachers and also coached a sport. The suspected shooter’s name was Colt Grey. 30 minutes before the shooting happened he texted his mom, “I’m sorry mom.”
The gun used was an AR-15 Rifle bought by the shooter’s father, despite the fact that the police had come and asked about a potential school shooting. A student had been pulled out of class who has a similar name to Grey, due to the fact that they thought he was Grey. County Sheriff Jud Smith said that there was no prior warning despite the fact that the mom of Colt Grey called the school leading people to think that the shooting could have been prevented.
Student Bri Jones said that they didn’t even notice that he left because he was always so quiet, so when he came back and she went to open the door she peeked through like her mother taught her to, and saw that he had a gun so she stood there and told herself she wouldn’t open the door. However the teacher said to open the door because she couldn’t see the gun, then she told the teacher he has a gun, he then looked at her, looked at the teacher, then there was someone in the hall so he turned and started firing shots.
Another student named Ronaldo Vega immediately took cover under his desk. Then after hearing four to six gunshots he got up and closed the door so the shooter couldn’t come back. Only after seeing the bullet under the teacher’s desk, did he realize that he’d been shot.
Grey’s father could be charged for up to 180 years in prison. The charges against him are: four involuntary manslaughter, two second degree murder counts, and eight counts of cruelty to children. He pleaded not guilty, and his son pleaded guilty.
Now other schools in the district have started school and Apache is bound to start soon. Hopefully even though the shooting happened they will be able to start school again. While the friends and family of the victims will never forget them, hopefully overtime the pain will lessen, and that we’ll never forget them.
