The Lewis Cass boys’ swim team is ready to kickstart their season as their practices began in early November. With fresh faces on the team this season, the boys are excited for what could be in store for the program. No matter if it is their first year or their last, they are ready to make this year one to remember.
Practices for the boys began on November 10, 2025, with excitement and energy. Several first-time swimmers are learning the ropes in practices while experienced swimmers work on training speed and distance. As the first meet gets closer with every practice, the team is thinking of their goals for the season. Jayden Ramer, a junior at Lewis Cass, was a Three Rivers Conference Champion and Cass County Champion last season. This year, he has hopes of being a two-time county champion and TRC Conference champion while also trying to go under-the-minute in the 100 butterfly event. He also wants to “get closer to breaking records this year.”
Not only does the team have encouraging attitudes, but head coach Haley Ramer is “very excited” for the season. The new swimmers are improving every day, and a diver will also be an asset to the team. Even though the team lost several senior boy swimmers last year, the first-year swimmers will help fill the team. Some first-time swimmers this year include juniors Liam Ellington and Jaden Figueredo, and sophomores Nekoah Lane and Brecken Smith. Haley said, “They will help us tremendously with team depth and help us win meets.”
Swimming takes a lot of grit, dedication, and courage, not only within the swimmer, but within the team as well. Senior swimmer, Xavier Zavala Garcia, is ready to lead the team this year, as one of the only returning seniors. Garcia stated, “Even though it may be my second year swimming, I strive to teach the newcomers everything that I wish I knew at the beginning and help them go farther than I ever could.” Xavier is dedicated to making this season memorable, not just by winning meets, but by bonding with other swimmers on the team. He also enjoys swimming, saying, “Nothing makes me happier than being in the water.”
Newcomer and senior pep club president, Harrison Clark, is enthusiastic to try something new this year. Harrison did swim in the past, but hopes to make it to at least six or seven practices. Although he was unsure if he wanted to swim when the season first started, he ended up coming out for the team saying, “I felt I should follow in the footsteps of ‘the great one’ Yuta Yashiro.” While the two-hour practices can get long and tiring, Clark is excited for meets and the different events he could swim. Clark hopes to swim mainly freestyle, but would truly be happy with anything. Especially if it is freestyle rap, even though it is not a real event.
The Lewis Cass boys’ swim team continues to prepare for the upcoming season, working hard on and off the pool deck. Their first meet is away on December 1 against the Rochester Zebras. Everyone is excited for the upcoming season, so swim fast, Kings!
