It is that time of the year again when students and staff are ready for a break from school to relax. Winter Break allows students and teachers to do just that. Everyone does something different during the two-week break; some will travel to celebrate Christmas, or to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
During holiday break, I spend time with my family, sleep in more, and go to baseball practices. The Kings’ Courier wanted to see how our breaks compare to a few of our peers. So, we asked fellow senior Matthew Minnick what he is most looking forward to during Christmas Break. His comment was, “My favorite part about Christmas break is at the very end of it, I get to leave to go to the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado.” Matt Minnick is always competing in high-steaks shows with his sheep. If you did not know, he is also in a magazine, the Stock Show Trendsetters, because he participated in a high-level stock show. Personally, my favorite part of Christmas is definitely the time off from school, because at this point in the year, I am mentally checked out of many of my classes. Minnick’s favorite part of Christmas Break includes “Playing Christmas Fortnite, and seeing my family who has spread out around the country.” This is one of the only times of the year when he is able to see close family who have moved far away. Minnick also described what his plans are for the break. Minnick said, “One thing I plan to do during Christmas Break is to stay up all night and trap Santa Claus.” If I were Santa, I would not be going to his house on Christmas Eve. Naughty elf!
Many students and families celebrate the holidays with their families. Personally, my family goes over to my grandparents’ house to have Christmas dinner and open gifts. The Courier asked fellow senior, Emma Hildebrand, what her family does on Christmas Day. She said, “One thing my family does during Christmas Day is we all go to my aunt’s house or whoever is hosting Christmas, and we eat, give gifts, and spend time with each other.” This seems to be most common for many Lewis Cass students.
Emma was asked how she was planning to spend her time off. Hildebrand said, “I plan to spend most of my time off relaxing, sleeping in, and hanging out with friends and family. I just want to take a break and not worry about school for a bit and have fun with friends and family.” Seems like everyone is ready to take a break, catch up on sleep, and hang out.
Next up is everyone’s favorite… food! The Courier asked Hildebrand what her favorite food was from Christmas dinner, and she said, “My favorite part of Christmas dinner is probably the macaroni and cheese. It is by far the best thing on the table.” We have to agree, during the holidays, merrymakers can never go wrong with macaroni and cheese.
Although break is usually directed toward Christmas, there is still another holiday during break, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. When these two days come around, many students do two activities: hang out with friends or family. The Courier wanted to know what our fellow senior student, Colton Copeland, plans to do during his holiday break. Copeland said,” My plans will probably be to spend part of the day with my family, then go and hang out with friends later in the night until the New Year.” It seems like many of us have similar plans and ideas for New Year’s Eve.
With the New Year coming up, classmates are preparing to finish this year’s plans or starting to think about next year’s resolutions. I personally do not make New Year’s resolutions, but this year my New Year’s resolution is to drink at least a gallon of water a day. This is definitely an achievable resolution and should not be too difficult to achieve. So, what are some other common resolutions? Colton Copeland does indeed have a resolution, saying, “My New Year’s resolution is to keep lifting every day throughout 2026.” This is a great resolution for anyone to have; working out every day can help people become stronger throughout the course of a year.
Christmas Break can be filled with love, laughter, and time with family and friends. Hopefully, everyone gets to enjoy their break because it is truly a wonderful time. Whether students are spending time with friends and family, travelling, or just using their time to relax and unwind, this two-week break is great for everyone! Happy Holidays from the Kings’ Courier!
