Winter is here! Many exciting activities are waiting. Feeling adventurous? Try out some outdoor activities, such as sledding, skiing, or snowboarding. Prefer something more casual? Try building snowmen, forming igloos, and making snow angels with friends or family, as it is a popular choice in the snow. Not like the cold? Stay warm and cozy inside your home, solving puzzles, reading books, watching shows, baking food, and more. There are many fun options for everyone. Some Lewis Cass students shared a few of their favorite winter activities.
Marina Cabrera is a foreign exchange student from Spain and is experiencing winter in America for the first time. Over break, Marina was very busy with little to no rest, so she could experience as much as possible. When asked what she did over winter break, Marina said, “We did basic Christmas activities, such as: choose a Christmas tree, decorate it, and watch Christmas movies. But my favorite for sure was going to New York during the Christmas season, that was awesome, and I had so much fun.” Marina loved going out and trying new activities, but her favorite activity to do was being inside in the warmth since she is not much of a cold-weather fan. In her words, “Even though I love sliding and playing with the snow, I can’t stand to be cold for a long time, that’s why during winter my favourite things to do are: bake winter cookies, watch Christmas movies, decorate the Christmas tree… Overall, warm hobbies, I’d say.” All in all, Marina gravitates toward warm, indoor activities during the winter weather.
Likewise, Ruby Villanueva, a senior at Lewis Cass, prefers indoor activities over outdoor. She likes to watch Christmas movies, bake, and build gingerbread houses. Ruby said, “I find these activities to be enjoyable and relaxing during the colder months.” Winter activities are a fun way to spend time with loved ones, but most importantly, it creates long-lasting memories. When asked about her favorite winter memory, Ruby responded, “My favorite winter memory from when I was younger is building an igloo with my siblings after it had snowed a lot.”
Personally, I enjoy outdoor activities more than indoor. Some of my favorite memories are from winter, so I like to spend as much time as I can in the snow before it melts. My favorite activities would be sledding and building snowmen with my family.
If you are looking for some winter activities to do, there are some local businesses that hold special events for the public. According to the Cass County calendar, the Mary Max in Logansport has a free mystery movie night on Mondays. This is a great way to spend time with family or friends on a budget. It has great reviews, but only open for a limited time. There is also an ice skating spot in Kokomo called The Frozen Sandlot. The Frozen Sandlot homepage states it is a popular, affordable spot to experience this winter activity. This is a great place to step out of your comfort zone and step onto the ice. Try these activities and enjoy the winter season while it lasts!
