Thanksgiving often gets overlooked because it is right after Halloween and right before Christmas, which is a beloved holiday by many. However, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I get to eat the perfect meal with my family where we share what we are grateful for and bask in the Thanksgiving spirit. I often wonder if people overlook Thanksgiving because their meal is not tasty enough, to which I would invite you to read this in order to get some ideas for your next Thanksgiving meal.
First, I suggest surrounding yourself with people you love, whether that be friends, family, or anyone you know and love. Thanksgiving, in my opinion, is meant to be a holiday where people can enjoy who and what they are thankful for. Surrounding yourself with people you love will make your whole day more enjoyable, and it will make the food taste better! Personally, I like to spend Thanksgiving with my family, which includes some of my built-in best friends.
People often think of Thanksgiving as an American holiday, but some countries celebrate Thanksgiving in their own way. According to The Real World, Canada celebrates Thanksgiving by serving tourtiere, a pastry filled with potatoes. Canadians love apple pies and butter tarts for desserts on their Thanksgiving day, which they celebrate in October.According to German Foods, Germans will often serve turkey with traditional German sides like sweet and sour pickled pumpkin.
When you think about Thanksgiving, what foods do you think of? Many would say turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and other traditional foods. These foods come to mind because I believe they are perfect foods to eat on Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Homemade mashed potatoes and rolls are staple foods for me to eat on Thanksgiving, or I will not be fulfilled. My grandma’s homemade noodles she makes at a church are also one of the first foods I grab for. I have always been a firm believer that homemade foods are made with love because my mom always says her secret ingredient is love- and you can definitely taste the love at my Thanksgiving meals being related to so many Home Economics teachers!
When I think about the perfect side dishes for Thanksgiving, turkey comes to my mind. I do not treat turkey as a main dish for me because I prefer mashed potatoes and noodles. Nonetheless, I reach for either turkey or ham because it is arguably one of the most common foods eaten on Thanksgiving, so I feel like I need to honor the tradition. Along with turkey or ham, I always reach for green beans and corn. Green beans and corn are a top-notch vegetable in my opinion because they add flavor that is compatible with almost any meal. When it comes to desserts, I rarely indulge because I am too stuffed to even think about desserts.
No matter what foods you eat, or where you are in the world, Thanksgiving looks different for everyone. Building the perfect Thanksgiving meal that caters to you is essential to celebrating Thanksgiving Day. Spend time with your loved ones and enjoy the wonderful meals on Thanksgiving!
