During this recent snowstorm, schools were closed, traveling was unsafe, leading students to go outside, stay home, and have little to do to pass the time. With the snow piling outside, many students spent their time watching movies, television series, or even YouTube. From binge-watching favorites or finding something new to watch, television screens became the main source of entertainment.
The Kings’ Courier took a poll from Lewis Cass freshmen through seniors to get their insight into what they watched during the snowstorm. Out of the 100 responses, over half of the students used streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video, or Peacock. The other half of students watched either YouTube, DVD movies, spent time on social media, or watched nothing at all. For the students who watched Netflix, some of the top picks were Outer Banks, Teen Wolf, My Life With the Walter Boys, Riverdale, Stranger Things, and The People We Meet on Vacation. On Disney+ and Hulu, many students watched Percy Jackson and Avatar. On HBO Max, some students watched The Vampire Diaries. On Amazon Prime, many students watched Regretting You and Heated Rivalry. Finally, on Peacock, little students watched Harry Potter, and The Hobbit. Some of the students who watched YouTube to pass the time spent time watching Joe Bart, a TikToker, YouTuber, and Twitch streamer, and Dance Moms. Other students passed the time watching television series such as Brooklyn 99 and Grey’s Anatomy. Then the rest passed time by scrolling through their phones on TikTok.
According to USA Today’s, Julie Hinds, the top movies to watch during the snowstorm were The Shining (1980), which is an adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Frankenstein (2025) is a story based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, where Victor Frankenstein becomes obsessed with a creature brought to life from old soldier body parts. The Revenant (2015), which is based on a trapper in the wilderness stranded by himself after the group he was leading got mauled by a bear. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) is a cautionary tale about climate change and humanity needing to flee for their safety. The Mountain Between Us (2017) is a photojournalist and a neurosurgeon who build a connection as they struggle to stay alive when their plane crashes. Hinds recommended these movies because they are full of adventure and suspense, and people can see from the security of their tv screen.
Fellow Lewis Cass Kings, seniors Brody Hillis, Julian Davidson, and Owen Cotner-Graves spent their time inside watching various shows and streaming. Brody Hillis passed his time inside watching the long-standing comedy The Modern Family. Julian Davidson spent his time watching YouTube videos. And finally, Owen Cotner-Graves spent his time scrolling through TikTok.
Personally, I spent the majority of my time rewatching The Vampire Diaries. Once finished with that, I rewatched K-pop Demon Hunters, Bridgerton, and Riverdale. Overall, it seems like the Lewis Cass Kings stayed warm inside during the snowstorm, watching some great movies.
