My Retro Haul
I’m a sucker for all things retro. Don’t believe me? Just ask any of my friends about my addiction to collecting cassette tapes and players, they’ll tell you all about it. To me, there is just something so fascinating with discovering someone else’s personal cassette or VHS or DVD collection from way back in the day. Snooping through their favorite songs or memories all the way back in the 80s and 90s helps me reflect on my own childhood while also forgetting about the stresses of the modern age for a bit. Also, there is nothing quite like popping in a cassette loaded up with your favorite songs in your Sony Walkman and boarding around town. Spotify simply cannot possibly come close. With that being said, just yesterday, I brought home a huge haul of old retro items that I’d absolutely love to share with you today.
To start off with, let me explain how I came into contact with all these relics of the past. My neighbor, who I really have no clue who they are, has been putting loads of junk outside for the trashmen to take for about a month now. Seeing as it is all basically free, whenever a new load comes out, I’ll go out there and check for anything that looks dope or interesting that I would like to add to my collection. A couple weeks ago I got this awesome mug with eyes on it that really piqued my interest in this mysterious person´s trash, so I’ve been checking out their hauls ever since. And by god, did I strike gold yesterday. After cooking some pancakes, I looked outside and saw some storage containers out on the road in front of the neighbors house, and inside one of those containers I saw a VHS tape and immediately knew there was some good stuff in there. Here’s what I managed to collect:
- 23 movies, including but not limited to-
The entire Indiana Jones movie catalogue including Bonus Material
The entire Back to the Future trilogy collector’s edition STILL WRAPPED IN CELLOPHANE
The entire Karate Kid series (one through three)
A collectors edition of E.T. STILL WRAPPED IN CELLOPHANE
THE ENTIRE AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER SERIES
The Patriot
Predator
The Silence of the Lambs
The Goonies
… and many other classics
- 5 VHS tapes including-
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
The Lone Ranger: The Lost Episodes
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
and a collectors edition of Saving Private Ryan (two separate VHS tapes)
- 12 CDs by various artists such as-
Boyz II Men: The Remix
Will Smith: Big Willie Style
Guns N´ Roses: Appetite for Destruction
Some KISS CD
Another KISS CD entitled KISS: Smashes, Thrashes, & Hits
Jim Croce: Bad, Bad Leroy Brown & Other Favorites
Rick Trevino
Ozzy Osbourne: The Ultimate Sin
- 12 random floppy discs, WITH A CARRYING CASE, including but not limited to-
Vehicle Simulator 6 Software Disk 1 Release 1/21/2001
and Vehicle Simulator 6 Software Disk 2 Release 1/31/2001 (sounds exciting)
- 2 programming books-
The C Programming Language
and How to Program
And finally…
- One untitled cassette tape
Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to binge watching all my movies, VHSs, and listening to all my CDs. Like I said, I just love seeing what someone 30 years ago kept for themselves and diving into another person’s life via old retro media. That’s all folks, I just wanted to share! 🙂

I’m not really into any of that stuff considering I don’t know how any of it works. You seem to be very passionate about this kinda stuff, and after reading your article it actually sounds kind of fascinating. Great Job!
