The History of KitKat

Candy goes all the way back to 1600 BC. Over time, candy has evolved and changed in so many ways. What is your favorite candy? Reese’s, Hershey’s, Milky Way, Twix, Snickers. Candy can come in many different flavors and colors. The type of candy that you are going to receive the history of is brown and chocolaty, yet crispy. 

KitKat came into the world in 1935. KitKats were not always known as KitKat but as Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp. Eventually, the title was changed to KitKat Chocolate Crisp in 1937. According to HersheyLand.com, “The Hershey Company has produced the candy in the U.S. since 1970.” The KitKat bar was invented in Britain by Henry Isaac Rowntree. Isaac Rowntrees’ name is the reason why KitKat bars were originally called Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp.

The reason the KitKat bar was invented is because people wanted a chocolate bar that could fit in their pocket while going to work. Henry then made a chocolate bar and named it Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp. He later changed the name to the name we all know today, KitKat. KitKat’s slogan, ”Have a break, have a KitKat” is what we all know, but do we know exactly what it means and where it comes from? “Break” can mean a couple different things. This is because you have a break, but also break the sections of the chocolate bar.  Now you see that, “Have KitKat” means the same thing as having a break. 

 In conclusion, over a couple of years, the KitKats name has changed a lot. Now, they don’t only have one type of flavor, milk chocolate, they have over 300 flavors. The flavors can vary from lemon to pistachio. There are even some unique and sensational flavors in other countries such as in Japan. They have flavors such as apple and even sweet potato.
