Gearing up for a mystery of a lifetime
The drama club has been up and running with their rehearsals in preparation for Clue, their spring play. The cast has been working very hard to bring the popular board game mystery to life on stage. Drama director, Mrs. Burch, is so excited for the play and thinks the cast will be more than ready when the day comes. With so much to do and such little time. They have brought the story and board game CLUE to the spotlight. “There’s a lot more we could do, but if we were to go on tomorrow, we’d be ready!” Freshman, Annika Townsend, the actress playing the role of Miss Scarlet, expressed her excitement for the upcoming performances.
Rehearsing the Drama
Memorizing lines, keeping blocking, and the story straight is no easy feat. For Cassidy Cannon, the actress known as Mrs. White, this week has been full of great memories. “We’ve been able to rehearse without scripts, which means we are able to be dramatic and really portray our characters. While rehearsals can be tiring and hard, it sounds like the rehearsals have been fun-filled. There are many different ways to memorize lines. For this play, the cast made quizlets with cue lines in their respective scenes, and the cast ran through those to help them memorize.
Game Versus Play
When deciding what play to do for this season’s drama, Mrs Burch said, “I try to think about the cast I have and their strengths.” The drama club tends to put on comedy plays because “Life is serious enough.” Mrs. Burch expresses her love for the break from the seriousness of everyday life. The play closely follows the movie, but obviously has more drama. The game, however fun it is, does not have as much personality and humor. Annika expressed how enjoyable watching the play can be.
Spotlight Memories
Throughout his drama days, senior actor portraying the infamous Colonel Mustard, Will Rose, thinks this is a great final play for him; he loves the iconic humor this show offers. All of the cast members have had so many favorite memories from the seniors always bringing a sense of laughter and happiness, everyone has enjoyed the last few years of drama. Mrs. Burch said they accept everyone and make everyone feel comfortable and accepted.
Curtain Call
The upcoming play is coming up fast and is sure to be phenomenal. There has been much anticipation and excitement leading up to the play. Mrs. Burch said, “To anyone on the fence about going, this group of kids is great and has worked so hard. They’ve brought a classic to life. There will be unexpected surprises and fun.” There is bound to be laughter, so come see for yourself on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 27 at 2:30 pm.
