Swim Club Memories

Swim Club Memories

As we all know 2020 has been a year to remember. COVID has been good and bad. The thing COVID affected the most has been my sports, especially swimming. I swim for a club called HCA. We have swim meets almost every weekend and we travel to many big schools. When COVID hit our club, a lot of things changed, good and bad.

Some of the good things about COVID is since we didn’t have a pool to practice in, we were left to do assigned workouts. These workouts helped my strength and conditioning for swimming. I personally think that because of these workouts, I have become stronger and an overall better swimmer. COVID has also helped my friendships. During these workouts my friends and I would FaceTime. An hour everyday on FaceTime creates great friendships. I now have a stronger relationship with my friends. I can thank COVID for a lot of things that have happened due to being in quarantine.

Some not so good things about COVID is that at the moment we are practicing at Cass because Kokomo isn’t allowing visitors. As a result of that, we have not been able to practice as a whole swim club. The Kokomo students practice at Kokomo while everyone else practices at Lewis Cass. Another downfall of COVID is we haven’t been able to have meets. Normally I would be swimming every weekend at some big school. Most schools are not allowing visitors into their school which means we don’t have anywhere to host a meet. Swim meets are one of my favorite parts of swimming so it has been a bummer not being able to swim.

Overall I personally wish COVID would just disappear. For some people COVID was something that helped them greatly. For others COVID has done nothing but ruin their life. I think COVID has been an eye opener for me because you don’t know how grateful you are for something until it is gone. I will cherish all the memories I make in swim now just in case COVID comes for a second round.
